Veterinary health in motion.
About Metaboly
Metaboly is a veterinary health sciences company pioneering new technologies for animal, farm, and agricultural system resilience. Based at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Metaboly develops practical, science-backed tools that translate laboratory research into early, actionable insights for producers, other researchers, and industry partners.
Built on grant-supported research, Metaboly specializes in the analysis of biological and environmental indicators using non-invasive samples such as feed, forage, water, and other environmental matrices. Our work spans equine and livestock systems, with a strong focus on early toxin detection, environmental exposure monitoring, and farm-level early-warning systems that support proactive intervention.
The equine world is full of passionate, hands-on caretakers, but when a horse is underperforming, losing condition, dealing with recurring GI issues, or a barn is battling mystery problems, the root cause is often hidden in plain sight: parasite burden, nutrition gaps, or environmental exposures coming from water, forage, and feed. Too often, owners and barn managers are forced to rely on anecdote, trial-and-error, or delayed access to meaningful testing.
This role is for someone who wants to bring credible environmental analysis and better decision-making to an underserved market across Ontario. If you love the horse world, enjoy building relationships, and want to represent a company with real science behind it, you’ll help shape a territory from the ground up and make a measurable difference for barns and horses.
About the role:
This position is primarily relationship-building and market development inside Ontario’s equine community. Your success will come from building a repeatable network through:
- Barn Coordinators (barn managers/contacts who make group ordering easy)
- Referral partners (equine nutritionists, feed reps, tack/feed stores, vet clinics)
- Barn events (sampling nights / lunch-and-learns that convert interest into orders)
You are not expected to be a scientist—Metaboly provides technical training and in-house support. Your job is to build trust, connect the right customers to the right testing, and drive adoption through consistent follow-up.
Key responsibilities:
1) Field sales outreach (barns and facilities)
2) Partnerships and referral network development
3) Barn events and community presence
4) Follow-up, organization, and reporting (critical to success)
5) Lead research & local market development
Imperatives:
- 1+ year of sales experience (outside sales, account management, partnerships, territory growth, customer success with selling responsibilities, etc.)
- Intimate familiarity with the equine community (comfortable at barns; understands how the industry operates)
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to initiate conversations
- Reliable follow-up habits and personal organization
- Valid driver’s licence + reliable vehicle
- Comfortable with regional travel and occasional evenings/weekends for events
Preferred attributes:
- Existing connections in Ontario’s equine world (barns, trainers, clinics, stores, associations, etc.)
- Experience selling services
- Experience building community-based partnerships or referral networks
Compensation structure:
- Part-time employee
- Base pay: $18-21 hourly.
- Commission: competitive rate and uncapped — paid out on every sale above base pay
- Growth path: This is a part-time, performance-based role: we begin at 10 hours/week, with the intent to expand hours and scope for the right person up to 25 hours. Earnings are supported by hourly pay plus uncapped, competitive commission and incentives.
- On-target earnings (OTE): $1,500–$3,500 per month (base + commission + bonuses; varies with performance and event activity)
- Event hours: additional paid hours for attendance at clinics, seminars, shows, and industry events
- Fuel reimbursed for business travel
- Parking and tolls reimbursed
Who this role is best for:
This role is for a horse-world people person with real sales instincts—someone who gets energized by conversations, loves making connections, and wants to represent something that genuinely helps barns make better decisions.
