We are seeking a skilled and experienced equine auctioneer to oversee the dynamic process of selling thoroughbred horses to discerning buyers at our annual sale. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of thoroughbred bloodlines, conformation, racing performance, and market trends. This role requires exceptional communication skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage high-pressure situations with professionalism and poise.

This is for one sale only to be held in August of 2024 at Woodbine Race Track, Rexdale, Ontario.  Five days required on site.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the auction proceedings with confidence, guiding buyers through the sale process and maintaining a fast-paced yet orderly environment.
  • Be aware of current trends and developments within the thoroughbred industry, understanding the factors that influence horse values and demand.
  • Interact with potential buyers, sellers, and industry professionals before, during, and after the auction to address inquiries, and facilitate transactions.
  • Handle any issues or disputes that may arise during the auction with diplomacy and professionalism, working towards swift and satisfactory resolutions.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of thoroughbred bloodlines, pedigrees, racing performance, and breeding practices.
  • ·Proven experience as an auctioneer in the equine industry with a demonstrated ability to engage audiences and drive competitive bidding.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in cataloging horses and completing transactional paperwork.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure, handling challenging situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to upholding high ethical standards and integrity in all dealings, ensuring transparency and fairness in the auction process.

Education and Experience

  • Proven experience as an auctioneer, preferably with a focus on thoroughbred horse sales.
  • Familiarity with auction software and bidding technology platforms used in the auction industry.

Certifications

Certification from a recognized auctioneering institution is desirable but not mandatory.
