Reports to:     Barn Manager

Status:            Permanent Part Time

Hours:            Every Saturday and/or Sunday         

Salary:            Compensation will be commensurate with experience

 

Who is TEAD?

TEAD is a not-for-profit therapeutic riding centre located in Mount Hope, Ontario.   The organization is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for children and adults with any physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges through a unique form of proven therapy using horses.  TEAD’s year-round programming is supported by a dedicated and highly motivated team of instructors and volunteers who share a passion for providing the highest quality of care and rehabilitation for over 120 riders and their families.

Job Description

Are you passionate about working with animals and enjoy being in a farm environment? We are currently seeking a dedicated and reliable Weekend Barn Worker to join our TEAD team. This is a part-time position, offering an opportunity to contribute to the care and well-being of our animals during the weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily care and feeding for all horses on the farm.
  • Clean and maintain barns, stalls, and animal living areas to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Monitor animal health and report any concerns to the appropriate staff members.
  • Perform basic medical treatments under the guidance of veterinary professionals, as needed.
  • Grooming and bathing horses as required
  • Interact and engage with visitors to the farm, providing information about the animals and the organization’s mission.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure the well-being of both animals, staff, volunteers, and participants.
  • Occasional operation of farm machinery such as tractor, lawn mower etc.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with horses is required.
  • Knowledge of animal care and husbandry practices
  • Ability to handle and work around horses of various sizes and temperaments.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be available to work either ALL Saturday’s in a month OR ALL Sunday’s in a month (option for both days can be discussed)
  • A positive attitude and genuine love for animals
  • Must have reliable transportation and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
